The Kahlert School of Computing has launched a Bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence. The degree is the first of its kind in the state of Utah, and will begin accepting applicants for the Fall 2026 semester. Coursework begins with the foundations of computer science and mathematics, then builds toward core AI areas, such as machine learning, data analysis, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. The program will train students to develop the underlying technology that powers these applications; it will pair that technical training with education on AI’s ethical and effective use.
For majors in its other degree programs of Computer Science, Data Science, and Software Development, the Kahlert School has also introduced an optional emphasis in Artificial Intelligence, which explores the breadth of computing while also specializing in machine learning and AI.
For other undergraduates at the University, the Kahlert School offers an AI minor and introductory course for non-majors. The AI minor prepares students with basic skills and competence in AI. COMP 1960: Exploring AI examines artificial intelligence as a creative and analytical tool that is reshaping how people learn, work, and make things.
For Graduate Students:
Since Fall 2022, the Kahlert School has offered Artificial Intelligence as a track of specialization for its MS and PhD in Computing degree programs.
The Kahlert School of Computing offers a Graduate Certificate in Deep Learning in AI and Robotics for other graduate students at the University, as well as non-matriculated students.
