1996 Scientific Visualization Projects

Below are images of final projects from the 1996 Scientific Visualization class (CS 523).
o Vector Plots for Irregular Grids. Generate random points directly in the barycentric (or natural) coordinates of the elements using an area-weighted(or Volume-weighted) distribution for2D(or 3D) vector field. Baocai (Paul) Zhang.

o Visualization of DH Parameters and Position Errors for Serial Linkages. Display linkage for a given set of Denavit-Hardenberg parameters and allow interactive manipulation. Overlay scene with positional errors to aid calibration process. Godmar Back

o Visualization of the attraction regions of numerical methods for nonlinear equations. Display solution regions of various numerical methods for nonlinear systems and study the convergence bahavior from their attraction regions, Zhijian Huang.

o Motion Without Movement. A technique for displaying patterns that appear to move continuously without changing their positions [Freeman et. al., 1991]. To see the moving effects, you must be able to see a MPEG file, Weidong Li.

o Fluid Flow Visualization:Fluid flow around a sphere is numerically simulated using CFD softwares ,and the analysis of the behaviour of the flow is made.Duriseti Harikrishna.

o Three-dimensional (3D) Electromagnetic (EM) Forward and Inversion Modelling and Visualization. A user-interface using MATLAB language was designed to implement 3D EM forward and inversion modelling and visualization. This package makes it easy to analyze EM data and inverse results and also to prepare the input file for 3D EM modelling. Different plots can be easily done (such as profile, contour, image, surface and so on). 3D inverse results can be seen by constucting different Step Model or Penetrate Model (only see anomalous resistivity part). Also you can see different slice at three axis direction and any position. Sheng Fang.

o Lossly and Lossless compression algorithm with Huffman Encode and Predictor , and Pure Huffman Encode respectively. Author: Zhiling Qiu (Sorry I do not have an image).

o Microstrip Antenna and Radiation Pattern Visualization. Display the 3D solid model of a microstrip antenna, its radiation pattern, and the current distribution on the upper plate. Shu-Li Wang

o Visualization of Arrival Time of Blood Flow as False Color, The Arrival Time of Digital Subtraction Angiography(DSA) images is defined as the time when the contrast iodine reach the half maximum concentration in the injection process of arterial phase. It may be helpful for doctors to determine the effects of therapeutic intervention , Suiping Huang.

o Fractals. Some pictures of Madelbrot and Julia Set fractals and also some other "fractal animals", Leonid Zhukov.

o 3D Unstructured Grid Visualization by Isosurfaces. Isosurface dispaly of activation time determined from electric potentials measured from canine heart by point stimulation. Quan Ni.
