Re: Multimedia in DrScheme

John wrote me privately about his SDL work. It's really neat, but for
what I'm trying to to, it's more than I need and not cross-platform
enough. Both the faculty member running our Scheme course and I are
Mac users, so a non-Mac solution won't work well here.

And I really don't need a large multimedia toolkit to do the things I
described. Just direct access to the PixMap (Thanks, Paul!) and to a
SoundBuffer (an array of integers is JUST FINE) is all that's needed
to really get some interesting multimedia projects going. Moore's
Law really makes even low-level machines capable of doing some
amazing audio and graphical/animated effects, even at the higher
level of Scheme (or Squeak). (For example, we can do multi-voice
sound synthesis in Squeak on my old 68040!) We really don't need
much at the native code level to be able to do interesting multimedia
in DrScheme.
