- The five-step approach to solving computational problems. Note in particular
the importance of the assessment step.
- The difference between integers and floating-point
numbers in Maple.
- The importance of paying attention only to the significant
digits in a computation. In a
computation involving only multiplication and division, the result cannot have
more significant digits than any of the inputs. It may, however, have fewer
significant digits.
- The idea of using interval arithmetic to find upper and lower bounds on an unknown answer.
- Doing simple arithmetic computations in Maple.
