Currently, I'm working on using an Irradiance Volume type method to generate caustics in real time. Currently the caustics look quite good (as you can see from the image in the upper right corner), however frame-to-frame coherence is lacking, ocassionally causing annoying jumps.
Update October 2: Below are examples of the images before and after the jump. (Notice the sphere doesn't visibly move between the two sets -- opening the two images in XV and switching back and forth shows just the caustic moving).
