Tushar Mohan

I was a graduate student at the University of Utah, majoring in Computer Science. I started my MS program in Fall 2000, and defended my thesis in Nov. 2002.

Research & Interests

I've been working with my advisor, Prof. Sally McKee, in the area of characterizing and improving memory system performance for high-performance systems. Specifically, my research and thesis involves detecting patterns in the memory accesses of scientific applications. The presence of these patterns can be exploited in a variety of ways, such as predictive prefetching, lossy trace compression, etc. In addition, the existence of these patterns can be indicative of other performance characteristics of the application, such as its cache and TLB usage.

Recently, I've started working at Lawrence Berkeley Lab. The work deals with performance modelling for SciDAC applications and is an activity under PERC. Berkeley, of course, happens to be a great city to live in!

My other technical interests include networking -- software routers, TCP/IP, mobile systems, wide-area caching, network security, and Internet infrastructure. Apart from the required courses, two courses -- CS7960 & CS6935-- involved extensively reading research papers, both classic and contemporary.
