Homework 4 - Realistic Camera Model

Michael Callahan

For this assignment, I implemented the thin lens camera model, then rendered out a movie of the infinite checkerboard as the focus changes from 1 meter to infinity.

Here's frame 8 of the movie, with the focus at 3.16 meters:

There are 60 frames for the movie at 240x360. 25x25 samples were taken per pixel using a tent filter of width 2. No interpolation was done over time. The focus changes exponentially with each frame, with more change as time goes on.

The camera model used was the 35mm camera from the writeup on the web page, with a 50mm focal length and 5.6 fstop. I also found information for other cameras on the internet at The Ultimate Photography Resource Center, in case anyone is interested.
