Hints for Editing Your Web Page
- I recommend that you use one of theses editors:
- Editors in browsers such as Netscape Communicator's Page Composer
- Notepad or FrontPage in Windows
- Word in Windows (save as ASCII text)
- Eve in the VAX
- Vi or Emacs in Unix
- Webwizard on Silicon Graphics Machines
There are other editors, but those would be the easiest to use.
Don't use editors like WordPerfect 5.1, because they wouldn't
save your file in the right format. It has to be saved as regular text.
There are ways to save or create HTML files in the newer versions of
WordPerfect and Word.
- Make sure that all of your HTML files have a name that ends with
.htm or .html. Otherwise, when you try to look at your page through
a browser, it may just show up as plain text.
- When creating your page, it would be a good idea to spell check it,
or ask someone to proofread it for you. Pages look better when
there aren't a lot of errors in them. Also, once you have your
page online, try to keep it up to date.
- There are some characters that are reserved which you can't
use. & is one of them.
Use 'and' instead, if possible. Other reserved characters are
< and >.
- If you are having trouble editing your page, go to a computer lab
on campus and ask the lab aide on duty for help.
