About Me:
I am Ravindra S. Lanka, first year graduate student in Computer Science at School of Computing. I am from India and I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Engineering from College of Engineering, Osmania University, Hyderabad(1999). I studied System Science and Automation at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, for a Masters in Engineering(2001). Prior to coming here, I had worked in the Indian IT industry for about 5.5 years at Intel, Strand Life Sciences, Pivotal & Yahoo R&D, gaining experience more in the areas of Information Extraction from the Web, and string based algorithms in life sciences for efficient Oligonucleotide design.
My interests are in the areas of Web databases and algorithms. I am currently working in the web-db group under Prof. Juliana Freire on problems related to hidden Web databases (focused crawling for sparse concepts in particular).
When I'm not too busy with studies, I try to find some time to play badminton or racquet ball (and of course, cricket).
