for SenSys '04

ACM SenSys 2004 will be held in Baltimore, Maryland from November 3-5, 2004.

Our goal is to assist 20-25 United States-based graduate students in attending this meeting. We anticipate that we will be able to reimburse up to $750 to each award recipient, to cover travel, lodging, and registration. This support is made possible by a travel grant from NSF.

Participation in conferences such as SenSys is an extremely important part of the graduate school experience, providing the opportunity to interact with more senior researchers and to be exposed to cutting-edge research in the field. Our goal is to enable the participation of students who would otherwise be unable to attend SenSys 2004.

Applications:

An application for a travel award will consist of the student's vita, a letter from the student, and a letter from the student's advisor.

The letter from the student should be at most 750 words and should include:

  1. A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date;
  2. A description of areas reflected in the SenSys 2003 program that would impact the student's research; and
  3. Why the conference attendance is important to the student.

In addition, the student's advisor should send a letter of recommendation that includes:

  1. Confirmation that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing;
  2. The suitability of the SenSys program material to the student's research area;
  3. Ways this particular student would benefit from attendance at the conference; and
  4. The strengths and potential contributions of the student.

Important dates:

Applications and letters of recommendation for the travel award should be sent electronically to John Regehr (regehr@cs.utah.edu).

The awards will be announced by Friday, October 8. Recipients will be required to accept the award by Friday, October 15.
