Instructions for RTSS 04 WIP Presenters
Each presenter will be given 5 minutes, INCLUDING SETUP TIME. It is
essential that you make effective use of this time. First, prepare a
short talk (we suggest a maximum of 3 slides + title slide). You
should convey one or two important ideas about your work. You will
not be able to give a really fast version of a regular-length talk,
please do not attempt to do this. Second, you should attempt to
minimize transition time by ensuring ahead of time that your laptop
works with the projector and that you understand how to use the
microphone. Also, WIP presenters may want to put multiple
presentations on a single laptop.
The point of the WIP session is for the audience to get a rapid-fire
stream of up-and-coming research ideas. Our experience is that a WIP
session is fun and interesting to attend only if each speaker has
really figured out a few key points to make, and makes them quickly.
In other words, it's far better to give a memorable talk than to give
a talk that includes a lot of details.
A few other details:
-
there will not be any posters for WIPs
-
WIPs will not be presented in parallel
-
due to time constraints we will not have questions/answers during
the WIP presentations
Before the conference, please direct questions to John Regehr
(regehr@cs.utah.edu). During the conference itself please address
questions to Giuseppe Lipari (lipari@sssup.it).
