Just For Fun

Video Games

Video games are what got me into the computer field.  I remember back in day when it took me all day to learn about DOS device drivers and high memory so I could get enough conventional memory for Test Drive 3 to run.  I remember getting up to speed with IRQ settings so I could get my sound card to work.  And I remember the day I studied AT modem commands so I could play WarCraft 1 against my friend.

These days I see my younger siblings buy a video game, load it up and have it immediately work!  It is just amazing!  They just don’t make ‘em like they used to.  It makes me want to tell stories about walking up a hill both ways.

If you were to ask me what the best game of all time was I would probably say Civilization 1 and the old school BBS game Barren Realms Elite (BRE).

Currently the two PC games that I am playing through are, C&C: Generals and Civilization III: Play The World.

I am also the proud owner of an Xbox.  There are a lot of great games out for the Xbox and I own a number of them, but I must say my two favorite games on the platform is still two of the launch titles, Project Gotham Racing and Halo.

As far as other consoles go I have played about halfway through Metroid Prime.  It is a really fun game, but not quite enough to justify the purchase of a Gamecube.

Dancing

I enjoy Ballroom, Big Band, and Country dancing.  I have had a number of people call me out on being a computer person and liking Country Dancing.  All I can say is I grew up in somewhat of a rural area and when I went to a Junior College for my first year of school there was a limited number of social activities and over time country dancing really grew on me.

Lately I have been getting more and more into Big Band dancing.  Mainly the Lindy-Hop.  But I enjoy the Charleston and West Coast as well.  The Big Band club at the University of Utah has a dance in the Navel Science Building every Thursday from 9:00pm-11:00pm.  Feel free to drop by.

Theater

I have always enjoyed theater.  Way back in the day I took an acting class and growing up I was in a couple of plays for my local school.

In Salt Lake I have found the Pioneer Theater Company (PTC) to have some excellent productions.  And they give substantial discounts to U of U students.  I have gone to most PTC plays while at the U.
