If you are planning to major in Computer Science, CS 1060 is a required course. However, this requirement can be waived for students with sufficient background in certain fundamental computing concepts.
CS 1060 is a co-requisite of CS 1410. This means that you must either take CS 1060 (or have the requirement waived) before or very early in the same semester as you plan to take CS 1410.
If you believe that you already have a basic understanding of computer science, you may request to have the requirement waived. To do so, see Erin Parker during office hours. (Please note that it is not necessary to send email to Erin unless you need to make an appointment outside of office hours.)
Erin will expect that you are knowledgeable of topics such as number representations, logic gates and circuits, problem solving and algorithms, and some programming. See this document for more information about the material covered in CS 1060.
The latest that you may request to have the requirement waived for Spring 2010 is Friday, January 15.
