Caution: Editing in progress (Mon, Oct 26)
The School of Computing at the University of Utah is proud to be a host site for the 2009 Rocky Mountain Regional ACM Contest. For information about this competition or to register, please see the Rocky Mountain Region Contest Information page.
The contest will be held in room 224 of the Warnock Engineering Building (WEB). You may view a detailed map of our part of campus, or you may get a broader perspective using the map browser of the University of Utah Map. You can park in the MEB or WEB parking lot, indicated here, free after 6:00 PM on Friday and all day Saturday. (Do not park in reserved spaces.) Please use a metered stall (and pay) if you arrive prior to 6:00 PM on Friday.
Check-in is by arrangement on Friday afternoon and in the WEB 1000 level gallery on Saturday.
Note: The building has an upper level (numbered 1000 and above) and a lower level (numbered 200 and below). If you find yourself in the wrong portion of the building, proceed to the central stair column. See the pictures.
Also note: The College of Engineering is holding an Engineering Day the same day as the contest (in the same building). Don't try to check in with them - find us at the west end of the the 1000 level Catmull gallery.
Arriving from the south: From I-15 northbound, take the 600 South exit (near downtown). Go east on 600 South until 900 East, then turn left. Go north on 900 East until 100 South, then turn right. Follow 100 South up the hill and around a bend to the left. The next lot entrance to your right is the MEB parking lot. You may park there, or you may turn right at the next light and park across from WEB. MEB is a large building with lots of black glass. WEB is just south of MEB, it is small and made of concrete. We'll be in the gallery.

There will be open lab time on Friday after 3:00 so that you all may
become familiar with the equipment and the compilers. Please
email me to arrange this early check in. I will take any
available teams out to a restaurant around 6:00 PM. The Friday dinner will be held on an informal basis at Chuck-A-Rama from 6:00 PM - 7:15 PM. (There will not be an organized group or reserved space.) They are located at 744 East 400 South in Salt Lake City (about a mile from campus on the south side of 400 South). All teams are encouraged to come, but I recommend arriving by 6:50 PM. Please tell the hostess you are with the ACM group. I will give the hostess a list of schools and team names that we will pay for.
The official practice time will be on Friday after dinner. The regional judges will operate their servers and contestants will be given a few practice problems that parallel the format of the actual problems on Saturday. All teams are strongly encouraged to attend. If you are unable to come to dinner, please check in with me in WEB L 226 after 7:25 PM Friday.
Teams may also check in on Saturday morning, but you'll miss the official practice time. Your team must check in by 9:30 AM on Saturday, October 31.
Because the contest is on Halloween, I have moved the restaurant dinner to Friday night and kept the post-contest activities to a minimum. Note that on Saturday we will likely finish our pizza before the official results are known.
