Team Info

Overview

The Utah Rhythm And Dance Team is oriented towards performance and competition. The team dances choreographed formation routines in the major styles (Smooth, Rhythm, Standard, Latin), as well as other popular genres (Swing, Argentine Tango, Hustle, etc.).

Plans for the 2002-2003 Year

The team will be learning a latin medley to compete at various collegiate formation team/individual competitions that may include Vancouver, CA; San Francisco, CA; Rexburg, ID; Las Vegas, NV; and Costa Mesa, CA. Troughout the year the team will perform at other local locations as well as hold a dance at the University of Utah. More information on these events will be posted as it becomes available.

Practice Location

The team practices every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 9:30-11:00 pm at Dancesport in Motion (1300 South 145 East). In addition, the team has a group technique workshop Wednesday evenings from 9:30-10:30 pm at our advisor's studio (10900 South 1700 East).

Requirements

Team members are usually intermediate to advanced dancers (though beginners are certainly welcome!). As with any performing group, members should be dedicated and willing to practice with the team for roughly 4-6 hours a week. Even a beginner who practices hard will look better than a pro who doesn't know the routines. No partner is required to join the team.

Finances

Members should either have or be willing to purchase a pair of ballroom dance shoes (standard or latin). Dues will be set at $25 a month. This could change if we receive sponsorship!

Note - dues pay for costumes, choreography, technique work, etc...in short, the money is well-used.

Benefits

Team members will get the opportunity to learn and perform a number of routines. For those who have never danced an open routine, this will be a great opportunity to improve both your technique and knowledge of steps. Those who like to dress up and show off will have ample opportunities to do so.

The team is also a great introduction to the world of competitive ballroom dance. Many team members compete at local competitions. In addition, the team makes an annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas in the spring to compete at a sizeable collegiate competition.

And, lest we forget, dancing is fun! The team is a great place to socialize and make friends. Socials are held quite often, giving members the chance to party off the dance floor, too!
