I am a fourth year PhD student in computer science at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. My area of research is in language support for software components, with a focus on configurability for embedded systems. I am currently working on Jiazzi, a component system for Java. For a more complete description of my experience, projects, and publications, please see my resume.

I come to Utah from Seattle where I earned my bachelor degree in computer science at the University of Washington. Seattle is one of the best places in the states to live - well, it does rain a lot, but that is good because it keeps Californians away. I am a third generation native of the Pacific Northwest (if you include Alaska), and proud of it.

In addition to studying computer science, I enjoy inline skating and all sorts of outdoor activities like camping, hiking and biking. I am also a Dance Dance Revolution addict, but I'm not very good yet. I am addicted to Starbucks, but mostly for the atmosphere and not the expensive coffee! I like to cook Chinese food, especially very spicy food, and my roommates usually complain that too much pepper gets into the air when I cook.

I am also trying to learn Chinese and I am always interested in learning about other cultures. Here is info about my first trip to China. I am very hopeful that I can go back soon and become better at speaking Chinese!
