USABDA Nationals in Salt Lake City!


The United States Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association is holding the national championships in Salt Lake City on August 9-11. The best amateur dancers in the country will by vying for top honors in a number of events. Plus, US amateur representatives to the world championships will be chosen this weekend.

Results from the UNLV Desert Challenge!

Utah Rhythm and Dance had a very strong showing at the UNLV Desert Challenge this past weekend. Utah dancers did very well, with every competitor placing in the top three in at least one of their events.

Results are detailed below:

Team Events

Formation - The team swept the single-dance formation event, taking first place with the tango. The team also performed a showcase of mambo.
Team Match - Desert Challenge offered three different team matches. The team competed in all three, placing very well.

Individual Events

URAD dancers placed in the top 3 in 44 of the 54 events entered, including: American Smooth International Standard American Rhythm International Latin Open Events

Results from the Ricks College Viking Classic!

After a two year absence, Utah Rhythm and Dance returned to the Viking Classic held at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho.

Results are detailed below:

Team Events

Formation - The West Coast Swing received a score of 92/100, for a superior rating. The Swing/Jive received a score of 86/100, for an excellent rating.
Team Match - The full team match competition consisted of eight teams. Each team sent a couple to dance Waltz, Swing, Cha Cha, and Samba. The team ended taking 4th place in this extremely competitive event.

Individual Events

American Smooth

There was no syllabus American Smooth offered.

Results from the UC Berkeley Ballroom Classic!

Utah Rhythm and Dance just returned from the first annual UC Berkeley Ballroom Classic. Pictures from the competition can be found here. URAD dancers did very well at this competition, winning a number of individual and team events. Results are detailed below:

Team Events

Formation - Dancing a tango routine, URAD placed 1st out of 4 participating teams.
Team Match - The full team match competition consisted of seven teams. Each team sent a couple to dance Cha Cha, Rumba, Waltz, and Foxtrot. After the regulation dances were complete, URAD stood in first place, tied with Stanford. Stanford took the ensuing dance-off, however, and URAD ended up with a strong second.

Individual Events
