Lake Blanche, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah
September 2006

The Saturday before Labor Day, I went out hiking with Andrew Kensler, his wife Marian and their son Daniel. All of us made it up to Lake Blanche.

Daniel was fed an animal cracker every half hour or so, or whenever he got cranky. In terms of fatigue and injury, he fared the best of us.

Only 1/4 of the way up the trail, I'm already sweaty and my face bears a strong resemblance to a tomato...

4 hours later, we reach our destination.

Just above Lake Blanche, an incredible alpine cirque. Past the ridge is Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Haze from the Great Salt Lake (and a healthy dose of pollution) rising from Salt Lake Valley.

I volunteer my back muscles for carring the baby down.
