User’s Manual

 

Configure Hardware and Web information:

The first thing you need to do when you start the DiscTracker program is to configure the setup. First select the "Config" option under the File menu.

The figure below shows where this option is located.






 

A window will appear with several fields.

In the field labeled "CD Changer", choose from the pull down list the brand name of the changer you are using. At this time, the DiscTracker software has only been programmed for the Marantz 100 disc changer and the Sony 300 disc changer.

In the Transmitter field, choose from the pull down list the type of transmitter you have connecting your CD changer to your PC. At this time, the DiscTracker software has only been programmed for the Xantech transmitter, and the Crystal transmitter.

In the Port field, choose from the pull down list the name of the port on your PC where the transmitter connects.

In the User Name field, enter your email address user name (the part before the @ sign).

In the Client Host Name field, enter your email address suffix (the part after the @ sign).

And in the Server Host Name field, enter the current web site for accessing CDDB’s data. (Currently cddb.cddb.com).

The figure below shows a sample configuration:

When you have finished entering the information, click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

In order for the DiscTracker to configure itself correctly, it needs to be restarted. Another window will appear to tell you this.

The figure below shows this message:

Click on "OK". After you have done so, the Disctracker will automatically be closed. You will need to start it up again.

 

Add New Disc to Jukebox:

To add a new compact disc to your jukebox, first select the "New Disc" option from the "Discs" Menu.

The figure below shows where this option is located.

After you select the "New Disc" option, a new window will appear asking you to place your CD into the CDROM drive. Place your CD into the CDROM drive and click on the "OK" button.

The figure below shows this window.

The DiscTracker then queries the database for a match with your CD. If it finds a match, a window is displayed showing all the matches. If the name of the CD is there, select it and then click on the "ok" button. Otherwise select "None of these choices" and then click on the "ok" button.

Then another window is displayed asking for the Disk information. Fill in the information for the following categories.

Album Title: This is the name of the Disc you would like to add. (Note: if you used the CDDB database, a name will already be entered here. You may change the name if you would like.)

Artist’s Name: This is the Artist of the Disc you are adding. You may either enter a new Artist’s name, or select from the Artists that are currently in your DiscTracker using the pulldown menu.

Album Genre: Enter a category that will help you remember what kind of music your CD has. You can either enter a new Genre type or select a Genre that is currently in your DiscTracker using the pulldown menu. (Note: if you used the CDDB database, a name will already be entered here. You may change the name if you would like.)

After you have entered all the information, click on the "Add Disc" button.

The figure below shows how you would continue to add the disk "Toad the wet Sprocket/Fear"

If the Disc information is not found in the Web database, an alert will be sent indicating that you need to enter the track information. Click on the ‘OK’ button.

The figure below shows this alert.

One last window appears requesting the track information. Enter the following information:

Track: This is the name of the track that you wish to enter.

Time: This is the playing time of the track

Artist: This is the artist of the track. You may either enter a new artist name or choose one that is already in the DiscTracker from the pull down menu. (Note: Each track can have a different Artist if you would like)

Genre: This is the genre of the track. You may either enter a new genre name or choose on that is already in the DiscTracker from the pull down menu. (Note: Each genre can have a different Genre if you would like)

After you have entered the track information, click on the "Add Tracks" button.

Note: If you used the CDDB database, data will be entered in all of these fields. You may change the information if you would like.

When you have finished entering the information, Click on the "Add Tracks" button on the bottom of the window.

A reminder window will appear, reminding you to activate your disc in the changer.

The figure below shows how you would add the tracks for "Toad the wet Sprocket/Fear".

Note: After you have added a disc, the disc will automatically appear when you select the "Discs" tab. The tracks will also have been added to the "Tracks", "Artists", and "Genres" tab.

View All Discs in Jukebox:

You can view all the Discs in your jukebox by clicking on the "Discs" tab in the main Jukebox window. The discs will be alphabetically sorted. To view the tracks on a CD, double click on the title. The disc names will have a CD icon in front of them and the track names will have a note icon in front of them. Any time you click on a CD or a track the information bar at the bottom of the screen is updated with information about the selections.

The figure below shows the discs Bob & Tom / Greatest Hits Volume One - Disk 1, Dave Matthews Band / Before These Crowded Streets and Dave Matthews Band / Listener Supported (Disc 1). Dave Matthews Band / Listener Supported (Disc 1) has been double clicked, revealing it’s tracks. The information about the disc is seen at the bottom of the screen.

View All Tracks in Jukebox:

You can view all the Tracks in your jukebox by clicking on the "Tracks" tab in the main Jukebox window. The tracks will be alphabetically sorted.

The figure below shows the tracks currently in the DiscTracker.

View All Artists in Jukebox:

You can view all the Artists in your jukebox by clicking on the "Artists" tab in the main Jukebox window. The Artists will be sorted alphabetically. To view the tracks that were performed by a particular artist, double click on the Artist’s name. The Artist names will have a CD icon in front of them and the track names will have a note icon in front of them.

View All Genres in Jukebox:

You can view all the Genres in your jukebox by clicking on the "Genres" tab in the main Jukebox window. The Genres will be sorted alphabetically. To view the tracks that were classified by a particular genre, double click on the Genre’s name. The Genre names will have a CD icon in front of them and the track names will have a note icon in front of them.

The figure below shows the Genre rock. It has been double clicked, revealing it’s tracks.

Change disc Info:

To change the information on a disk, select the "Change Disc Info" option from the Discs menu. You can also highlight a Disk or track and then click on the right mouse button.

The figure below shows where the menu option is located.

A window will appear with all of current Disk and Track information. Change what needs to be changed and then click on the "Change Information" button at the bottom of the window.

The figure below shows you the window that appears when you change the disc information for the disc Toad the wet Sprocket/Fear.

Remove disc from Jukebox:

Note: Once you remove the disc from your personal jukebox, the data for the disc will no longer be stored. If you wanted to listen to the disc again through your jukebox, you would have to re-add it. If you are just removing the disc temporarily from your changer, you should follow the instructions for making the disc inactive.

If you do want to delete the disc, first highlight the disc you want to remove from the Jukebox. Then select the "Remove Disc from Jukebox" option from the "Discs" menu.

The figure below shows how you would remove the disc titled Sarah McLachlin/MirrorBall.

3. Make Disc Inactive to Changer:

Note: When you make a disc inactive to your changer, you are telling the jukebox that the disc is no longer in your changer and therefore cannot be played. Once you make a disc inactive, your jukebox will then consider its allocated slot available to other discs.

To make a disc inactive to your changer, first select the disc you want to make inactive. Then choose the "Inactivate Disc in Changer" option from the "Discs" menu.

The figure below shows how you would make the disc titled Sheryl Crow / Tuesday Night Music Club inactive.

 

Note: After you have made a disc inactive, the track will no longer be able to be played. The CD icon will become black and white, and the tracks will be black and white in all of the tabbed sections. The figure below shows what the inactive disc Sheryl Crow / Tuesday Night Music Club now looks like.

Make Disc Active to Changer:

To make a disc again active to the changer, first highlight the disc you wish to make active. Then choose "Activate Disc in Changer" from the "Discs" menu.

After you select the "Make Disc Active to Changer" option, a message box will appear, asking which slot the disc is in. Enter the slot number and click on the ‘OK’ button.

The figure below shows how you would choose to make the disc active in slot number 2.

View All Play List in Jukebox:

Note: A Play List is a list of songs you put together from your Discs and Tracks.

All play lists are shown on the right side of the jukebox menu, under the tab labeled "Play Lists". Each play list has a name, which is next to a Disc icon. By double clicking on the play list, the tracks in the play list are shown.

The figure below shows the play lists "Fun Songs" and "Mike’s Favorites", both of which have been double clicked to show their tracks.

Create New Play List:

To create a new play list, first select the "New Play List" option from the "Lists" menu.

The figure below shows where this option is located.

After you select the "New Play List" option, a message box will appear, asking for the name of the new play list. Enter the name and then click on the ‘OK’ button.

The figure below shows how you would add a new play list called "Slow Songs."

After you have done this, the new play list will automatically appear under the "Play Lists" tab.

Remove Play List:

Note: once you remove a play list from your personal jukebox, the data will no longer be stored in the database. If you want to listen to the play list again, you will have to re-add it into your jukebox.

To remove a play list from your jukebox, first select the play list you would like to delete, and then chose the "Delete Play List" option from the "Lists" menu.

The figure below shows how you would delete the play list "Slow Songs."

 

Add Tracks to Play List

To add track(s) to a play list, do one of the following:

  1. Highlight a disc or a track from the "Discs" or "Tracks" tab and drag it onto the play list you want to add it to.
  2. Highlight an artist or track from the "Artists" menu and drag it onto the play list.
  3. Highlight a genre or track from the "Genres" menu and drag it onto the play list

Note: This will not delete the track(s) from the other tabs, but will rather copy it to the play list section.

You can also move tracks within the playlist or from one playlist to another. To do so, highlight a track, and then drag it onto the track you want to insert before, or the disk you want to add it to.

Remove One Track from Play List

To remove one track from the play list, first highlight the track you want to delete, and then select the "Delete Play Track" option from the "Lists" menu.

The figure below shows how you would delete the track "Walk on the ocean" from the play list "Mike’s Favorites."

Change Play List Name

To change the name of a play list, first select the play list you want to rename, and then choose the "Change Play List Name" option from the "Lists" menu. You can also click on the Playlist you would like to change, and then click on it once more, this time with the right mouse button.

The figure below shows how you would change the name of the play list called "Fun Songs."

After you select the "Change Play List Name" option, a message box will appear prompting you for the new list name. Enter the name and select the ‘OK’ button.

The figure below shows how you would rename the play list to be "Funny Songs"

Listen to Music

You can perform the functions play, pause, fast-forward, rewind, and stop to a disc, track, playlist, artist, or genre. To do so, do one of the following:

  1. Highlight a disc or track from the "Discs" section
  2. Highlight a track from the "Tracks" section
  3. Highlight a artist or track from the "Artists" section
  4. Highlight a genre or track from the "Genres" section.
  5. Highlight a play list or track from the "Play List" section.

Then you can click on the buttons on the top of the DiscTracker window to perform the functions you wish. The status bar at the top of the Jukebox window will tell if the function has been successfully performed.

The figure below shows how you would play the track "butterfiles" from the disc Toad the wet Sprocket/Fear.

Random Play

If you would like to randomly listen to all of the CDs in your changer, select the "Random Play" option under the Play menu.
