All news, including some 'old' news...
- The beta version of DeepPeep
is now online!
- Together with Emanuele Santos and
Claudio Silva, I have
given a tutorial at the IEEE
eScience Conference on how to use Vistrails to streamline data
exploration and visualization. The tutorial slides and hands-on
examples are available at
http://www.vistrails.org/index.php/E-science_2008
- Together with James Cheney and
Bertram Ludaescher,
I am organizing the Symposium on
Provenance in Workflows , being held in beautiful and
snowy Salt Lake City from October 13-17th, 2008.
- I have received an
IBM Faculty Award.
- I have
received an NSF CAREER award. This award will allow my group to
build infrastructure for efficiently managing workflows and
their provenance, and to enable casual users (who do not
necessarily have programming expertise) to perform exploratory
tasks and solve problems through workflows. In this project, we
will collaborate closely with scientists in the NSF
Science and Technology Center for Coastal Margins Observatories
& Predictions.
For more details, see
the award abstract.
- The International Provenance and Annotation workshop (IPAW)
was held in Salt Lake City on June 17-18, 2008. For more details,
see the IPAW 2008 Web
site.
- Our paper Querying and
Creating Visualizations by Analogy (by Carlos Scheidegger,
Huy Vo, David Koop, Juliana Freire and Claudio Silva) won the
Best paper award at IEEE Visualization 2007. Here's a video
that demonstrates both the query by example interface and the
analogy operation.
- I have attended the SciFoo
camp . This was a *very* interesting event where I learned
about Cosmology, mental disorders, chemistry, and
bioinformatics. I organized a session on Provenance Analytics and
the future of scientific publications (more on this later).
- In
September/2007, I hosted the CRA-W Distinguished Lecture
series. Our distinguished speaker was Professor Susan Davidson (U Penn). For
more information, see the Women in Technology
Distinguished Lecture Series web page.
- Together
with Simon Miles
and Luc Moreau,
I organized the
Second Provenance Challenge
- Laura
Haas gave the inaugural talk in our brand-new Women in Technology
Distinguished Lecture Series.
- Together with Ken
Brodlie and Claudio Silva, I organized
the IEEE
Visualization Workshop on Grid-Based
Visualization, 2006
