In the future we would like to move this system to distributed
parallel environment so that it can handle larger datasets at
interactive frame rates. We would also like to explore the use of
multi-dimensional transfer functions for mixed modality datasets.
Another extension would be to develop shading models that are more
appropriate for scientific visualization. Immersive environments are
an exciting possibility for this class of volume rendering. Finally,
user studies could allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of this
approach and make improvements.
