Ahh. Finally, I get to talk about my stuff.
Two summers ago I worked with the visualization group at the Advanced Computing Laboratory at LANL. We built a large scale parallel volume renderer which used graphics hardware to render sub volumes, and software, or processors, for compositing. We were able to visualize a 1024 cubed volume at at least five frames per second. Of course, this was on a multi-million dollar super computer. Recently there has been a great deal of interest in commodity, cluster based visualization applications.
