Year 2000 in pictures
Many exciting things happened this year and
I got to see many new places.

The year really started off when I went to Florida for a short vacation with
some friends during spring break. In addition to long sandy beaches, we got to
see some real wild-life in the form of alligators and various other fierce creatures (mostly squirrels :).
Unfortunately my harddrive crashed so the pictures were lost...(I'll try to scan some pictures from my analog camera).

During spring I went to London with a friend. We were lucky to escape the London fog
and were actually able to catch some sun. There were many places of history to visit
like Big Ben, the Parliament, the Towern, Westminister Abbey, and countless museums and castles. A lot of fun!

In April I went to a conference in Israel. The conference was held at the seaside
resort of Eilat in southern Israel. In addition to relaxing on the beaches and snorkling along the colorful coral reefs I also had time to catch a tour to the old fortress
Masada by the Dead Sea, as well as go to the Old City in Jerusalem. Apart from spending half the week with Israeli airport security (well, it sure felt like it)
it was an exciting experience. I also got a chance
to visit the ancient city of Petra in Jordan where entire buildings were carved directly out
of the rock face. A corner of the world vibrant of ancient history.

I did have some time to spend at home in Salt Lake City, although it didn't
feel like much with everything going on. At least I got some time to enjoy the
view from my office window (middle picture). I'm still working on a Ph.D. at
University of Utah, but starting January 2001 I'll continue my dissertation
research at IBM in New York (see below).

The summer I spent in New York working as an intern at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Who knew work could be so much fun!
My spare time I spent in New York City taking in the sights and drinking coconut milk
in Chinatown.
Later on some old friends from Sweden joined me and we made a tour of the northeast side of the US
to places such as Niagara Falls and Washington DC.

I also took the time to visit Sweden quite a few times this year as my sister had a baby boy in February. He already walks and talks (although so far in a language only he understands). With his voice I'm sure he'll make a good living as an opera singer...
