Overview
Welcome to the Hamlet Tutoring System. You will use this system to
learn how to use various aspects of the College of Engineering's Unix
workstations in EMCB 224/226. You are currently using Mozilla, a
World Wide Web browser. You will learn about the other windows on the
display in due time.
We wish that we had the time to sit down with you, in front of a
workstation, to teach you this material. If we did, we would probably
- Tell you about the workstation and its software.
- Demonstrate the software to you.
- Let you practice using the software.
- Answer your questions about the software.
This tutoring system, in conjunction with the TAs staffing the lab, is
designed to accomplish these four tasks.
You will interact with the workstation by using the display, the
keyboard, and the mouse. The mouse is a small box, connected to the
keyboard with a cable, sitting on the table in front of you. The
mouse should have three buttons on it, which we will refer to as the
left, center, and right buttons.
If you slide the mouse around on its pad, you will notice the mouse
cursor moving around on the screen. Move the mouse cursor to the
navigation bar on the left side of the Mozilla screen, where five
vertically-arranged buttons appear. You can activate a button by
moving the mouse cursor into it, depressing the left mouse button
once, and then releasing it. This is called ``clicking'' the button.
To move along the course of a lesson, just click the left and right
arrow buttons in the navigation bar. Each lesson is organized into a
sequence of pages. The right arrow button will take you to the
following page; the left arrow button will take you to the preceding
page.
(Click the right arrow button now to move to the next page.)
