So this is encouraging. What have we done. We've determined the underlying relationship between the data value and its derivatives that signifies the presence of a boundary in the volume, we've devised a simple tool, the histogram volume, for measuring that relationship, and we've verified that the histogram volume is indeed measuring useful information about the boundaries in a volume.
