Another approach, Design Galleries, creates a visual interface to the
complex parameter space by arranging thumbnail renderings from a wide
variety of transfer functions into this two-dimensional design
gallery, from which the user can pick the most appealing rendering. I
should point out that while these last two approaches could be termed
image-driven, the method presented in our paper strives to be more
data-driven, that is, based on the values and patterns in the original
volume, than on those in rendered images.
