At a very general level, the idea of our approach is to let the
dataset assist the user in setting the transfer function. We do
that by transforming the dataset to a new domain, where we measure
a certain relationship between the data value and its derivatives.
Having made that measurement, we can offer the user a simpler and
more intuitive parameter space, so that setting the transfer function
is no longer some random walk.
