Things to Do in Utah

For those of you unfamiliar with Salt Lake City, we've compiled a list of our favorite destinations/activities in and around the city. Most of them require minimum driving time and would be a good way to fill the day before the wedding.

Getting Oriented

Finding your way around is a piece of cake in SLC, whose wide and panoramic streets (a mountain view at the end of nearly every one) are arranged in an easy-to-follow grid pattern starting at Temple Square and spreading out from there in numerical sequence. For example, the street one block to the south of the Temple is 100 South, the street two blocks to the south is 200 South, the street one block to the north is 100 North, and the same is true for east and west, with numbers increasing in each direction. Downtown is compact, safe and easily, pleasantly walkable.

Antelope Island

(Be prepared it takes an hour drive (north) to get to the island).

Antelope Island is the largest island in the Great Salt Lake. It is reached via a 7.2 mile causeway. Activities include saltwater bathing, bird watching, camping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, sunbathing, exploring historical sites, photography and viewing wildlife in its natural habitat. Watchable wildlife viewing opportunities abound with a herd of 600 bison, deer, coyotes, antelope, bighorn sheep, shorebirds, and waterfowl. Facilities include modern rest rooms, hot showers, picnic shelters, group-use pavilion, boat launching ramp, marina and visitor center.

Red Butte Garden - Utah's Botanical Garden and Arboretum

With over 150 acres of gardens with walking paths and natural area with hiking trails, Red Butte Garden is the largest botanical and ecological center in the Intermountain West that tests, displays and interprets regional horticulture.
