Here's a summary of the of the time
I've logged so far, in recovering Stinson N6280M using the Stitts Poly-Fiber
process. Completion dates are shown on finished stages. (Last

Below is a condensed list of the Stitts Poly-Fiber tasks summarized above, as
applied to my aircraft. I use it as a memory jogging check-list, NOT a
substitute for re-reading the sections of the manual before doing each task!
-
Prep
-
Disassemble aluminum parts, windshield, interior.
-
Clean old glue and gunk off with M.E.K.
Use the fresh-air respirator every time!
-
Prime
-
Mask wires and anything else not to be primed, remove cables and
pulleys.
-
Etch and Alodyne aluminum surfaces, rinse well, air-blow, let dry.
-
Just before spraying epoxy, wipe all metal surfaces with Metl-Sol.
-
Spray epoxy primer (2-to-1 catalyzed + 50% reducer, mist + 2 coats.)
-
Remove masking, add cable-ties to secure wiring.
-
Re-install overhauled cables and pulleys.
-
Cover
-
Put anti-chafe tape on corners and ribs.
-
Brush 2 coats of 3-to-1 reduced Poly-Brush on metal areas in contact
with fabric and fill the anti-chafe tape.
-
Poly-Tak fabric to structure members.
Smooth glue bumps with 200 degree calibrated iron, heat-form overlaps and
recesses with 225 degree calibrated iron.
-
Smooth and de-wrinkle fabric with 250 degree calibrated iron.
-
Cut protrusions, heat-tighten with 350 degree calibrated iron.
-
Brush on first coat of 3-to-1 reduced Poly-Brush.
-
Apply polyester rib reinforcing tape and retaining PK screws,
smooth tape around screws with 200 degree calibrated iron.
-
Brush two coats of 3-to-1 reduced Poly-Brush on polyester rib reinforcing
tapes.
-
Apply inspection hole rings with Poly-Tak.
-
Apply pre-shrunk light-1 doilies over inspection rings with 3-to-1
reduced Poly-Brush. (Pre-coat, apply into wet second coat,
let dry, smooth with 225 degree calibrated iron, over-coat.)
-
Similarly apply gussets, hole edges, flight-wise (rib) tapes, span-wise
and leading/trailing edge tapes, and finally end tapes.
-
Apply drain grommets (with dollar patches in prop-wash areas.)
-
Heat smoothing with 225 degree calibrated iron.
Fill weave of tapes and remaining bubbles over metal by brushing in
3-to-1 reduced Poly-Brush.
This avoids pinhole voids later.
-
Spray Paint
-
Spray Poly-Brush (mist + 2 coats.)
-
Poly-Spray (4-to-1 reduced, 2 cross-coats, sand, 1 more cross-coat.)
Wipe with paint cleaning solvent and tack cloth between coats.
-
Poly-Tone (4-to-1 reduced, 2 cross-coats.)
-
Re-assemble everything.
