Ben Newbold's Guide to the Guitar

Guitar Guy

I love playing the guitar! It is one of the greatest things I've ever done, and you can learn how to play too. I've only been playing for a few years now, and with some practice I've become a competent player. Now I'm making this website to help you make the same step.

Let's be honest for a second. Learning the guitar, like anything, can be tedious and difficult. But if you want to learn, and you are willing to make the effort, good things will come to you. It will be one of the best decisions you've ever made!

Let's get started! At the bottom of the page are links to other services offered on this website, but if you don't know any of the basics, start here.

This is a picture of a guitar. It helps to know what all the parts of the guitar are named, along with their locations. Also, knowing the strings by note and number will be very helpful when it comes time to learn about notes and chords. So if you are just begining, take a minute or two to learn the information below:

  1. Body
  2. Bridge
  3. Pegs
  4. Pick guard
  5. Sound hole
  6. Frets
  7. Neck
  8. Nut
  9. Tuning pegs / tuners
  10. Head/headstock
In the section about playing the guitar, it is helpful to know a little about strings and notes.  The strings are numbered from bottom to top, and in standard tuning, are tuned to the corresponding note.

Now that you know the basics, you can dive in and see what else this webpage has to offer:
