Beginning February 2004, the Department of Anesthesiology phone system within the medical school will be replaced with the state-of -the-art voice over IP (VOIP) communication system from 3COM. Other department locations, such as the pain clinic, will follow after full implementation of the system within the medical school.

The phones installed on this system operate on the computer local area network (LAN). They bridge onto hospital and commercial phone lines for calls outside of the department. Each phone is highly configurable as far as call handling, notification, and messaging. Configuration is accomplished through the World Wide Web.

The first time you use your phone, you may set up your voicemail by pressing the blue "MSG" button to the left of the number pad. You will be prompted through the steps of setting up your voice mailbox and password. Further configuration is more easily accomplished through the web.

To access your phone's configuration page from within the Health Sciences Center (HSC), launch your web browser and go to http://itsphone . Your username is your phone extension, your password is the same as that for your voicemail. From outside the HSC, go to http://155.100.101.1 .

For more information on how to operate and configure your phone, you may utilize the following manuals and literature about the system
