About me
|
In early 1991 I co-founded an e-business ASP company, Dataware BI, who has been not only my source of income but also a school on programming. Software development is a very challenging activity and one that requires not only hands on experience but a great deal of research and studies. I have had the opportunity, during the last decade , to develop software for multinational corporations and some successful e-business services such as S.E.N. and pecas-on-line.com.br. My professional experience plus the passion for computer science have been key elements on pursuing my goal to earn a BS at the University of Utah School of Computing. In fact, I have been working restlessly for the last 12 years so I could obtain the necessary financial resources and a job that would allowed me to attend the School of Computing at the University of Utah.
The privilege of writing software as a job while attending the school has already given me an edge on some tasks related to a few undergoing projects. For instance, I am currently designing a Data Mining system for pecas-on-line.com.br. The goal is to sell access to instant strategic marketing reports regarding the business of the auto parts industry. During the last 7 years I have gathered and organized, on relational database servers, information concerning parts availability, queries for parts and the market evolution. Thanks to what I have learned in CS2020, for instance, I am now able to consider a different approach to the Data Mining. I have built a Linux based cluster last year at home, which is based on the Open Mosix architecture, that has allow me to experience with supercomputing techniques. Currently the cluster has 9 dedicated Intel Pentium CPUs and I have been testing scripts that I wrote to extract information from SQL servers and produce data.
Besides software development I have also engaged in other activities related to the computer industry during the last few years. I volunteered to teach Linux deployment and networking for an underprivileged audience. I wrote a lengthy how to about building an Internet router using a firewall and open source tools. I wrote documentation and presentation to customers of the software. I worked as a consultant for an investing Bank that was acquiring and investing on technology companies in 1998. And, most recently, participated on a MBA thesis from University of Sao Paulo that was based on an e-business solution for Toyota do Brasil which I have been designing during the last 8 years.
At the University of Utah School of Computing, my goals are very straightforward. The most immediate goal is to earn my BS in computer science. Following that I would like to focus on extending my education as a graduated student pursuing an MS and later a PhD at the School of Computing respective programs. Upon the completion of my studies my intentions are to get involved in research work with top computer faculty members and become a faculty member myself, parallel to my engagements in business ventures in the computer industry. |
