Web Accessibility for Casual Web Designers

Resources

The first place to look for an in-depth analysis of web accessibility issues is the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). In particular, professional web designers and others that create or maintain web pages that experience high traffic or for which accessibility is critical need to read and understand the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. The list of WAI Resources is also useful.

It is desirable for all web designers and required of some to be familiar with Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act.

The Utah State University WebAIM project includes an excellent set of information pages, plus the project provides professional training, consulting, and other services. One of their tools is a WCAG 2.0 Checklist.

The Adobe Accessibility Resource Center provides information relevant to the accessibility of Adobe tools.

The work of the Visual Perception and Spatial cognition research group is made possible by the generous support of the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the University of Utah
