The GS program is funded under a National Institutes of Health grant ``Institutional Training Grant in Genome Science'' (T32), from July 1, 1995 to June 30, 2000. This grant provides predoctoral traineeships with stipends dictated by prevailing NIH guidelines (currently, $10,008 per year), plus allotments for tuition, fees, insurance, travel, and other training-related expenses. GS host departments, at their option, may supplement stipends to match prevailing rates for their graduate research assistants. The number of NIH traineeships available per year starts at four and grows to twelve over the five-year period (four in 1995-96, eight in 1996-97, and twelve in the remaining three years). Administrative costs for the program not covered by the NIH grant will be borne by the GS host departments.
The NIH grant also provides postdoctoral traineeships and short term visitors, which will diversify and enrich the experience of GS Certificate students.
