The Program in Molecular Biology (PMB) is conducted by four departments in the School of Medicine (Human Genetics, Biochemistry, Pathology, and Oncological Sciences), and the Department of Biology in the College of Science. It is quite different from the program proposed here, in that it only serves first-year graduate students, who then select doctoral programs in participating departments.
PMB students with interdisciplinary interests may elect to complete the Genome Science Certificate program while pursuing a Ph.D. in a GS host department (Human Genetics or Oncological Sciences are most likely). Indeed, we expect this to be a significant proportion of those students who enter the GS program at the beginning of their second year.
