Selection of students by the GS Advisory Committee will be based
on a short dissertation research pre-proposal written by the applicant, as
well as transcripts, GRE scores, and letters of recommendation. Under the
two-population
recruitment model explained in Section

may enter the program at the beginning of their first or second years.
In the former category,
students will be given provisional admission to the GS program, pending
completion of their research proposal by the end of their first year of
study.
Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for
traineeships under a
National Institutes of Health Institutional Training
Grant in Genome Science, as explained in Section
.
Outstanding students not eligible for these traineeships will be considered
for financial aid from other departmental and institutional sources.
