Public Transportation

The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) (801-287-4636) provides a shuttle service to Salt Lake City Central Station.  A UTA bus service leaves the airport (SLC) for the City Center every 30 minutes during the day and every 60 minutes after 7:00 pm.  The one-way fare is $1.60.  Bus stops are located in the parking structure between Terminal One and Terminal Two.  Limited service is available on weekends and holidays.  Take the shuttle bus to Salt Lake City Central Station and transfer to the TRAX system University Line, the red line.

Driving Laws

Safety belts are required to be worn by law in Utah.  All occupants of a private vehicle must wear safety belt restraints.  Children should be secured in a car seat or seat belt.

DO NOT DRINK and DRIVE.  The state of Utah, like many Western states, has stringent alcohol laws.  A blood alcohol level of 0.08% or more is considered “driving under the influence” (DUI) and any driver failing that test will be arrested and charged with a crime.

Liquor Laws

Popular misconception is that  the state of Utah is a “dry” state.  This is not so.  The liquor laws in the state of Utah allow alcohol to be purchased and consumed. Alcohol is served with a meal in most restaurant’s, there are brew pubs that serve food.  The supermarkets sell beer.  However, liquor (e.g., scotch) and wine are purchased from an “alcoholic beverages concession” store only.  Whenever consuming alcohol please drink responsibly.

Time Zone and Area Codes

The state of Utah, including Salt Lake City, is in the Mountain Time Zone and uses Daylight Savings Time.  The area codes for the state of Utah are 801, 385, and 435.  Unless otherwise stated the area code for Salt Lake City is 801.
