Paper Submission

Overview and Submission Instructions

The 2010 IEEE International Conference on Multisensor Fusion and Integration for Intelligent Systems (MFI 2010) will take place at historical Fort Douglas, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, 5-7 September 2010.

The theme of MFI 2010 is “Cognitive Sensor Fusion.”  A major goal of multisensory fusion systems is to achieve human-like performance in terms of perception, knowledge extraction, and situation assessment, exploiting symbolic and/or dynamical systems approaches.

Initial Paper Submission

Prospective authors should submit their papers electronically in PDF format through Paper Plaza.  All papers will be subject to a rigorous review by the Conference Program Committee.  Six pages in the standard IEEE MFI 2010 format are allowed for each paper, including figures.  A minimum of two additional pages is permitted, subject to a page charge of $150 per additional page.

Invited Sessions

Invited sessions on new topics or innovative applications will be considered.  These papers should be submitted through Paper Plaza, and will go through the regular review process.  Each session will consist of five or six related papers.  Prospective organizers should include a brief statement of purpose  for the session as well as abstracts of the papers to be included in each session.

Workshops and Tutorials

Proposals for half-day and full-day tutorials and workshops should be submitted according to the instructions here.  Prospective organizers should include: statement of objectives, intended audience, list of speakers, and list of topics.  These should be submitted through Paper Plaza.

Important Dates

Submission of Organized Sessions: 1 April 2010

Submission of Full-Length Papers: 1 April 2010

Proposals for Workshops and Tutorials: 1 April 2010

Notification of Paper Acceptance: 1 June 2010

Submission of Final Papers: 15 July 2010

Prospective authors must submit their papers electronically in PDF format no later than 23:59:59 (US Pacific Time) on 15 July 2010.  Manuscripts must be in English.  Six pages in the standard IEEE MFI 2010 format (see instructions below, and in Paper Plaza) are allowed for each page, including figures.  A minimum of two additional pages is permitted, subject to a page charge of $150 per additional page, payable at the time of submitting the final, camera ready version of the paper.

Before submission, the PDF file of your final paper should be checked for IEEE Xplore compliance.  General information on how to create IEEE Xplore compatible PDFs is available on the information page for using IEEE PDF eXpress.

Paper submission is via the Paper Plaza system.  We strongly recommend that all authors follow the following step-by-step instructions when preparing their paper and video attachment (if applicable to the authors paper).

Preparing and Submitting your Final Paper/Video

Step 1: Paper Format

Write your paper using the available LaTeX or MS Word templates. Please use US Letter paper for both Latex and MS Word template and do not change the formatting in any way. If you choose not to use these templates, please make sure that your paper strictly adheres to these formatting instructions. Note, however, that we strongly encourage you to use the available templates. Your paper should be entirely self-contained. If it is accompanied by a video, an explicit reference to the accompanying video should be present in the text of the paper.

· Download Latex template in US letter

· Download MS Word template in US letter

Note: Papers should include authors' names and affiliations in their initial paper submission.

Step 2: Author List

Double check that the names of all authors and their order is identical in the PaperPlaza submission system, the paper and the accompanying video (if applicable). Please write names with only the first letter capitalized, i.e., do use "Firstname Lastname" in all instances and do not use "FIRSTNAME LASTNAME" anywhere.

Step 3: PDF Creation

Create a PDF version of your paper adhering to these instructions. These tips may be helpful. Alternatively you may proceed directly to the next step and have IEEE PDF eXpress create your PDF file for you.

Step 4: Video Submission

(Applicable only to those papers which have an accompanying video) Authors of papers originally accompanied by a short video (1-2 minutes) that has been jointly accepted with the paper should include the video (max 5 MB) in the final submission material.

Videos should not use special codecs (coders/decoders) in order to provide as much portability across platforms as possible. We strongly recommend the most common media formats (mpeg 1 or mpeg 4). Only freely available players (e.g., QuickTime, RealPlayer, Microsoft Windows Media Player, MPlayer) should be required for viewing the video. Providing video portability is a responsibility of the authors, also in their interest.

Although the final paper has to be self-contained (i.e., fully readable and understandable independently from the video), an explicit reference to the accompanying video should be present in the text of the paper.

The accompanying video(s) will appear in IEEE Xplore, as enhanced object(s) next to the PDF version of the paper.

Step 5: Submit Your Paper

Submitting your initial submission via Paper Plaza.

Submit the IEEE Compliant PDF file of your paper via the PaperPlaza web page. Note that the PDF file must not exceed 2MB. If applicable, submit the short video clip not exceeding 5MB. Again, note that these accompanying video clips are distinct from the separate track for video submissions.

PDF Compliant

For authors who are interested in creating IEEE Xplore compliant PDF documents for their first submission, please login to IEEE PDF eXpress (conference ID: mfi10) and create the PDF file for your paper if you did not create a PDF file yourself in Step 2. If you have already created a PDF file for your paper, login to IEEE PDF eXpress (conference ID) and use it to check if your PDF file is IEEE PDF compliant.

Please be reminded that each account with each email address can only be used for 10 times, including the initial submission and final submission. If more than 10 times operation are needed, another email address is necessary to create a new account.

Program Chair

If you have questions regarding the final contribution preparation and submission process please contact the IEEE MFI 2010 Program Chair.
