Dave Hanscom retired May 2006, after having been the backbone of the School of Computing's undergraduate CS and CE programs for twenty-four years. He taught and advised an entire generation of University of Utah computer science students. He organized the High School Programming Contests, the High School Computing Institute, and dozens of intramural cross-country ski races. In addition, Dave worked tirelessly behind the scenes on the undergraduate curriculum and admissions and has been one of the strongest and most persistent advocates for undergraduates on the School of Computing faculty.

The School of Computing has established a scholarship fund in Professor Hanscom's name. The scholarship will help support incoming computer science undergraduates: a great way to recognize Dave Hanscom's accomplishments and carry on his legacy of support for School of Computing undergraduate students! We would like to help raise at least $50,000 for this fund. If we can raise $100,000, we'll be able to establish an endowed scholarship that awards one student per year free tuition, fees, and books!
