                1998 International Workshop on
Practice and Theory in Public Key Cryptography (PKC'98)
           5-6 February, 1998, Yokohama, Japan

With the wide-spread use of public key cryptography, good
practice in applying public key and related supporting
technologies, together with prudent assessment and comparison
of the technologies, has become more important than ever.
The main purpose of PKC'98 is to bring together both
practitioners and theoreticians who are working on public
key encryption, digital signature, one-way hashing and
their applications to share their experience and research
outcomes.

Scope:
Both original research papers and high quality surveys
pertaining to all aspects of public key encryption, digital
signature and one-way hashing are solicited. Submissions
may present theory, techniques, applications and practical
experience on topics including, but not limited to:

      cryptanalysis
          dedicated attacks
          generic attacks
      comparison and assessment of
          public key encryption schemes
          digital signature schemes
      one-way hashing algorithms
      integer factorization
      discrete logarithm
      elliptic curve cryptography
      lattice reduction
      encryption data formats
      signature data formats
      signcryption schemes
      provable security
      one-way hashing
      key-ed one-way hashing
      fast implementation
      international standards

Workshop Venue:
Pacific Convention Center (Pacifico), Yokohama, Japan

Correspondences:
All correspondences, including submissions, will be made
through e-mail. The official e-mail address for PKC'98 is
      pkc98@imailab.iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp

Instructions for Authors:
The program committee invites both original technical
contributions and high quality surveys. A submission
should be clearly marked either as an original paper
or a survey. All submissions should be prepared using
11-point font or larger, with at most 20 pages including
bibliographies and appendices. We recommend LaTeX as
the document preparation system, which would facilitate
the inclusion of the final version of an accepted paper
  into the proceedings.

In lodging a submission, please send two separate
  e-mail messages to
      pkc98@imailab.iis.u-tokyo.ac.jp
The first message must be in ASCII format. It should
  include information on
      * whether the submission is a survey or an
        original contribution,
      * the title of the submission,
      * the names and affiliations of authors, and
      * the e-mail, telephone and facsimile numbers
        of the contact author
And the second message should contain the submission itself:
      * preferred page formats for a submission are
PostScript, Portable Document Format (PDF) and
        Rich Text Format (RTF).
      * the file may be compressed using "compress",
"gzip" or "zip", and then encoded using "uuencode".

Proceedings:
Pre-proceedings will be distributed to the workshop
participants. Springer Verlag has agreed in principle to
publish the final proceedings after the workshop in
their Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. For an
accepted paper to be included into the proceedings,
the authors of the paper must guarantee that at least
one of the co-authors will attend the workshop and
  deliver the talk.

Important Dates:
submission deadline: 28 November 1997 (Friday)
acceptance notification: 24 December 1997 (Christmas eve)
  camera-ready copy
    for pre-proceedings: 16 January 1998 (Friday)
  workshop: 5-6 February 1998 (Thursday & Friday)
  camera-ready copy
for final proceedings: 20 March 1998 (Friday)

Sponsors:
The workshop will be sponsored by Institute of
Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo.
It will be held in cooperation with the Technical
Group on Information Security, the Institute of
Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).
  (others are currently under negotiation)

Financial Assistance:
Financial support towards travel, accommodation and
workshop registration will be available to a limited
number of participants who will deliver their talks
at the workshop. Authors of accepted papers are
encouraged to contact the workshop co-chairs regarding
  possible financial assistance.
