Abstract
Technology trends in high-performance computing (HPC), such as large multicore processors, powerful accelerator devices and tens of thousands of nodes in a system, are making it increasingly hard to build parallel applications, challenging the current status quo of support for parallel application development via multiple “black box”, non-interacting tools and services. The aim of the Glass Box project is to think afresh about the manner in which parallel programmers are supported in the extraordinarily complex problem of creating efficient parallel applications.
In the talk, I will give an overview of the Glass Box project methodology which is aimed at opening up the programming, compiler, and runtime systems software levels to expose knowledge and to leverage functionality across the software stack for synergistic use.
