CS 6965/CS 7960-2 -  Adaptive Methods

Course Syllabus and Schedule: [ps] / [pdf]

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the concept of adaptive resolution computation.  Introductory material will include discussions on reasons for adaptive methods, the different means of spatial resolution refinement, and means of determining the success of adaptivity (error estimation).  A primary focus of this course will be the concept of high-order methods and their use in adaptive methodologies.

Some of the topics to be discussed are the following:
 - high-order finite elements/spectral elements
 - adaptive methods in complex geometries
 - moving mesh techniques
 - programming techniques/issues
