This is a paper reading seminar class with a focus on asynchronous systems, and architecture issues.

People who take this class for one credit will read and present a paper to the class, and participate in disucssions of other papers. People who take the class for more than one credit will do a project. Projects must be approved by the instructors.

• September 11: Niti will talk about a low power processor from Caltech, and the energy metric they use to evaluate it. Paper 1 on the Lutonium processor, and paper 2 on the energy metric.

• September 18: Dave : Processor Power Reduction Via Single-ISA Heterogeneous Multi-Core Architectures, and A Single-Chip Multiprocessor.

• October 9: Liqun: "Temperature-Aware Microarchitecture".

• October 16: Vamshi Efficient Self-timed Interfaces for Crossing Clock Domains and Implementing a STARI chip.

• October 23: Binu is going to use this as a pratice talk for his CASES presentation. The paper is A Low-Power Accelerator for the SPHINX 3 Speech Recognition System.

• October 30: Ganesh Token Coherence: Decoupling Performance and Correctness. Here are some powerpoint slides for the presentation.

• November 6: Gaurav Self-timed Ring for GALS systems from the Async 2003 conference. This addresses the issue of multipoint channels in GALS systems.

• November 13 Al: The Future of Wires, and Energy Dissipation in General Purpose Microprocessors

• November 20: Ali: Battery-Driven Dynamic Power Management and Event-Driven Power Management of Portable Systems
